Honda mulls to double its component exports

Honda, the Japanese manufacturer is now looking forward to double its export of auto components and engine parts to over Rs 800 crore from the present Rs 420 crore, during 2014-15. The company is also planning to double its vehicle exports in other countries too. HCIL Senior Vice President (Marketing and Sales) Jnaneswar Sen told PTI, "We are targeting to increase our component exports and it will be nearly doubled. It will cross Rs 800 crore during the current fiscal."
In the last year 2013-14, the automaker managed to generate revenue of Rs 420 Crore by exporting components and now it is looking forward to double its revenue to Rs 800 Crore. In the last financial year, the manufacturer has shipped 5,550 vehicles to Nepal, Bhutan and South Africa which includes hatchback Honda Brio and compact sedan Honda Amaze. The company also retails India manufactured Honda City in South Africa. Commenting on the vehicle exports, HCIL Senior Vice President and Director (Sales and Marketing) Shigeru Yamazaki said: "We are looking to double car exports from India during this financial year. It should cross 10,000 units in 2014-15." On being asked if the company's upcoming MPV Mobilio will also be exported, Yamazaki replied: "Yes, Mobilio may also be exported. It will depend on demand. However, our priority is India."
Honda Car India Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Honda Motors exports spare parts which are mostly manufactured at their Tapukara plant in Rajasthan. The different component parts include crank shaft, cylinder head and transmission part. The company exports its different parts to global markets of South East Asia, Latin America and the UK. In next seven to eight months, the company will also start its second production shift at its Tapukara plant to meet the growing demand.
Recently, the company also officially announced that it will launch its MPV Mobilio in the month of July. Based on the Brio platform, the MPV was first unveiled at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo. The manufacturer will launch Mobilio in both the fuel trims. The petrol models will carry 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine while the more fuel efficient diesel models will houses 1.5-litre i-DTEC engine, doing duty in the new Honda City, is expected to deliver a fuel economy of 25 kmpl. With the launch of Mobilio MPV, the automaker looks to capture the growing market of Multi Purpose Vehicle segment which is presently lead by the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga.
