Maruti S-Cross numbers shoot up with launch of the new petrol-powered model

The compact SUV segment seems to be thriving again with two of them registering enough numbers to be included in the top-10 seller’s list for the last couple of months. Hyundai seems to have retaken the crown for good from its Kia cousin but both are still very popular with over 10,000 monthly units each. Let’s see the exact figures and how everyone else fared during August 2020:

Takeaways

  • The Creta has been the best-selling compact SUV, its popularity reignited with the launch of the second-gen model just before the pandemic lockdown. It has experienced a relatively small month-on-month growth of less than 2 per cent but continues to stay above the 11,000 monthly sales mark.

  • Kia’s competitor isn’t far behind as its numbers continue to rise. The Seltos enjoyed a month-on-month growth of nearly 29 per cent with over 10,000 units sold.

  • The Mahindra Scorpio is the third best-selling compact SUV in August 2020 with over 3300 units sold.

Mahindra Scorpio

  • Maruti is regaining popularity in this segment with the petrol-powered S-Cross that was launched in August. Over 2500 units of it were shipped, which is a lot higher than its July 2020 figure of 451 units. The more affordable S-Cross petrol is likely to continue its rise in popularity for now.

  • The Renault Duster’s month-on-month demand grey by 40 per cent but it still sold less than 500 units in August. As of now, the Duster is Renault’s only SUV offering with the Captur discontinued and the Kiger yet to arrive.

  • Nissan’s compact SUV is slowly regaining popularity too as Kicks’ sales numbers improved by 118 per cent month-on-month.
