Dramatically different from the five-door i20 hatch (Elite i20)
Hyundai has revealed the 3-door i20 coupe based on the second gen i20 (our Elite i20), will go on sale next year in Europe. Hyundai says, for the first time 3-door version vaguely similar to the 5-door hatch, has its own road presence and will attract younger buyers. As we don't have market for 3-door hatchbacks, Hyundai India will not launch this in the country.
Speaking of the changes, compared to the i20 5-door hatch, the coupe offers a sportier front bumper featuring a larger reverse hexagonal grille. The coupe rides on a 17-inch - 205/45R17 radials featuring bolder wheel arches. On the inside, dashboard is borrowed from the hatch but offers a new orange shade color palette to compliment the new exterior color Tangerine Orange (existing i20 5-door hatch color palettes are also available - interiors color palettes are not offered in India).
The i20 coupe features similar set of engines that powered the hatch globally and even in India. The petrol variants offer 1.25-liter and 1.4-liter (not offered in Elite i20) naturally aspirated motor. The 1.25-liter gathers 84 PS and max torque of 122 Nm @ 4000 rpm while the peppier 1.4-liter motor chucks out 100 PS and 134 Nm @ 3500 rpm of peak torque. The diesel variants are powered by 1.1-liter, 75 PS and 180 Nm @ 1750-2500 rpm diesel along with 1.4-liter, 90 PS and 240 Nm @ 1500-2500 rpm.
The 1.25-liter petrol is mated to a five-speed manual box while 1.4-liter is mated to 6-speed manual along with 4-speed automatic. Diesel versions are only offered with a six-speed manual. Moreover, like the hatch, Hyundai will also introduce a 1.0-liter turbo petrol in the coupe version next year.
