Hyundai Ioniq 5 Facelifted Unveiled: 7 Key Changes Explained

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has got a facelift and it has been unveiled globally. The updated electric SUV not only features a larger battery pack, but also includes improvements to certain parts of its chassis aimed at providing enhanced handling and safety. Additionally, Hyundai introduced the new Ioniq 5 N Line, a sportier version that will sit below the Ioniq 5 N. Initially, the Ioniq 5 facelift and Ioniq 5 N Line will be available in Korean markets, followed by other global markets, including India. Let's take a closer look at the changes made to the updated Ioniq 5.

Minor Design Tweaks

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 facelift maintains the same overall design but receives updated front and rear bumpers. It also features refreshed aerodynamic alloy wheels, while the rear spoiler has been extended by 50 mm to improve aerodynamic efficiency. All these changes have made the Ioniq 5 facelift longer by 20 mm, while its width, height, and wheelbase remain unchanged.

Larger Battery Pack

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 facelift now gets a larger 84 kWh battery pack, up from the 77.4 kWh battery pack, for an increased driving range. However Hyundai has not yet specified the range for this battery pack version. However it will likely vary according to the market. 

For reference, the India-spec Ioniq 5 features a 72.6 kWh battery pack (usable capacity) mated to a single rear-wheel-drive electric motor which makes 217 PS and 350 Nm. It offers an ARAI-claimed range of 631 km.

Cabin Updates

Hyundai has updated the centre console for the Ioniq 5 facelift which now features physical buttons for functionalities such as first-row heated and ventilated seats, a heated steering wheel, and parking assist function. Additionally, the wireless charging pad has been relocated to the upper part of the console making it easier to access. Hyundai has also updated the centre pad of the steering wheel with pixel lights.

Added Features

Hyundai has also updated the infotainment system in the Ioniq 5 to the latest generation system called the connected car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC). This system comes with new features such as a quick settings menu accessible by scrolling down from the top of the screen, customization of home screen cards, and a split-screen feature for accessing multiple pieces of information on a single screen. Additionally, the set of hotkey buttons located below the AC vents has been updated to include seek and home buttons.

The infotainment unit is still the same integrated dual 12.3-inch display setup (one for the infotainment and the other for the driver). It also gets a dashcam setup and remote folding second row seats. Other features on board the Ioniq 5 facelift include ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control. 

Safety Update

With the Hyundai Ioniq 5 facelift, the automaker has reinforced the B-pillars of the EV to enhance side collision protection. The electric crossover SUV already gets full suite advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) features, but the facelifted Ioniq 5 now gets some additional functionalities like hands-on detection (HOD) steering wheel, lane keeping assist 2, remote smart parking assist 2 (RSPA 2), and forward/side/reverse parking collision-avoidance assist. It now also comes with eight airbags for improved safety.

Enhanced Driving Experience

Even though the visible changes are subtle for this facelift, Hyundai has been working on improvements below the surface to make the Ioniq 5 a better car. In order to reduce motor noise, the overall structure of the EV has been strengthened, and additional sound insulation has been provided for the rear wheel motor.

Hyundai has also updated the shock absorbers of the Ioniq 5 facelift for smoother ride quality. The carmaker has also made changes to reduce vibrations in the steering wheel. Reinforcement at the rear wheel and lower part of the Ioniq 5 have been doubled for improved stability and handling.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Line Debuted

Alongside the updated Ioniq 5, we get to see the new Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Line. We’re familiar with the N Line product category in India which is more about sporty looks than outright performance which is reserved for the true Hyundai N models, like the Ioniq 5 N. It is positioned between the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 5 N. It features a sportier front and rear bumper design, an N Line badge on the front grille, side skirts, and 20-inch aluminium alloy wheels.

The interior of the Ioniq 5 N Line has also been updated with an N Line-specific dashboard theme and steering wheel, sport seats with contrast stitching and the N Line logo, as well as metal pedals.

Expected India Launch & Price

Though Hyundai has yet not confirmed the launch timelines for the Hyundai Ioniq 5 facelift in India, we expect it to be launched by late 2024, starting from Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom). Currently, the India-spec Hyundai Ioniq 5 is priced at Rs 45.95 lakh (ex-showroom pan India). It rivals the Kia EV6, while also being an alternative to the Volvo XC40 Recharge, and C40 Recharge.
