Hyundai launched India’s first long-range electric vehicle, the Kona Electric, in 2019. While it was offered with a 3-year/unlimited kilometres warranty at the time, the carmaker now offers warranty coverage for upto 5 years as part of the variable warranty packages. The new warranty options are being extended to existing customers as well at no extra cost.
Kona Electric customers can choose from any of the three options Hyundai offers as part of its Wonder Warranty program:
3-year/Unlimited km |
4-year/ 60,000km |
5-year/ 50,000km |
The EV’s battery pack continues to be offered with an 8-year/1,60,000km warranty package like before.
Since its launch, a couple more manufacturers have joined the long-range EV space with their own electric SUV offerings, namely the MG ZS EV and the smaller Tata Nexon EV. Here’s what the Kona Electric’s rivals have to offer in terms of warranty packages:
Model |
MG ZS EV |
Tata Nexon EV |
Car Warranty |
5-year/ Unlimited km |
3-year/ 1.25 lakh km |
Battery Warranty |
8-year/1.5 lakh km |
8-year/ 1.6 lakh km |
The Nexon EV does get the option of extending the warranty coverage to 5 years. In comparison, the MG ZS EV warranty which also comes with 5 years of roadside assistance, is the better deal of the three electric SUVs.
Hyundai has priced the Kona Electric between Rs 23.75 lakh and Rs 23.94 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), while the MG ZS EV retails in the range of Rs 20.88 lakh to Rs 23.58 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The sub-4m Tata Nexon EV is priced from Rs 13.99 lakh to Rs 15.99 lakh (ex-showroom). In terms of range, the Nexon EV offers 312km (claimed) on a full charge as compared to the Kona Electric’s claimed range of over 450km and the ZS EV’s 340km.
