The growth of Indian car market was rather bleak last year. In such scenario HyundaiMotors India has declared that it expects only marginal growth this year which will be slightly above the overall expected growth of Indian car market. The company however will spawn the new Elantra and new Hyundai Sonata in India in 2012. Hyundai India is the second largest manufacturer and a leading exporter in India. Arvind Saxena, director of sales & marketing, Hyundai Motor India, reportedly told that although year 2012 opened to high sales but it does not guarantee the same for the remaining year as in the year 2011, Hyundai’s sales volumes dropped in the second half.

According to Saxena, the Indian automobile market grew by just about 4.5 per cent in 2011 and it is expected to inch up a little to about 6-6.5 per cent this year. Hyundai India’s target would be to retain their market share by growing slightly better than overall market. Taking figures in account, last year Hyundai grabbed a sale of 3.73 lakh units in domestic market and managed export of 2.25 lakh units. In year 2012 they are expecting to pep up the numbers by about 7% in domestic market to touch a sales figure of 3.9-4 lakh units. The export market is expected to remain the same but Hyundai India’s export interests, as explained by Saxena, will lie in tapping potential of non- European markets owing to the uncertain economic scenario in Europe.
