Hyundai has won five GOOD DESIGN Awards for its upcoming IONIQ alternative fuel compact vehicle, all-new Tucson, all-new Elantra, Santa Cruz concept model and the company’s ‘Sculpture in Motion’ art installation. The GOOD DESIGN awards are given to recognize the most innovative and cutting-edge industrial, product and graphic designs from around the world.
The IONIQ, Hyundai Motor’s advanced alternative fuel compact vehicle, was selected for its class-leading aerodynamics and striking design details. The IONIQ will have its world premiere on January 14, 2016 in Seoul, Korea.
The all-new Hyundai Tucson is longer, wider and has a longer wheelbase than its predecessor, resulting in increased interior space and improved versatility. Hexagonal-shaped grille, high-efficiency LED twin-projector headlights, Z-shaped character lines above the rear wheels are some of the design features that help the Tucson to put up an athletic and striking appearance.
GOOD DESIGN Awards also recognized the Hyundai’s all-new Elantra, which showcases the design direction which would be adopted for other Hyundai compact cars in future. The new Elantra is based on Hyundai’s Dynamic Precision design concept.
The Santa Cruz concept, introduced at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, was designed for greater design individuality, efficiency and manoeuvrability. The Santa Cruz gets a wide stance and an aggressive design and offers an innovative tailgate extension that allows the bed length to be expanded. Other features include rear-hinged, reverse-opening rear doors that integrate seamlessly with the front door design.
Hyundai Motor’s Sculpture in Motion project also earned the GOOD DESIGN Award. The project looks like a living wave that celebrates fluid motion as an art and referencing the relationship between the movement and the car design in the natural and automotive worlds.
“Being recognized as five-time winners in the GOOD DESIGN Awards strengthens Hyundai Motor’s position as an automotive design leader - not only for traditional combustion-engine vehicles, but also for eco-friendly vehicles and ambitious design concepts,” said Byung-Seob Lee, Senior Vice President and Head of the Hyundai Design Center.
