Is Nissan Roox Nissan's new small car?

Nissan India has been pretty busy lately, as it is mulling over the opportunity to introduce its new small car in the Indian car market. Rumor has it that this car might be called Nissan ROOX. This new small car by Nissan India will be positioned just below Nissan Micra hatchback. According to the managing director of Nissan India, Mr.Kiminobu Tokuyama, the Indian car market is the most flourishing one in the entire world and the firm will surely get an opportunity to introduce its low cost compact car. However, currently, Nissan India is doing a viability study to evaluate the most possible demand for a new car, which will be below the premium hatchback car, Nissan Micra.

Nissan Micra made its debut in India in the year 2010 and at that point of time Nissan was expected to be a volume player. But sadly, Nissan Micra has been going through a struggling time since a long time now despite of the fact that Nissan Micra is also available in the diesel variant. However, Nissan Micra is a big success abroad and to cope up with the sales, Nissan India is exporting Nissan Micra from India.

On the other hand, Nissan India’s small car price is expected to land between Rs. 2.5 and Rs. 3.5 lakh. The price of this car put Nissan ROOX in direct competition to Maruti Alto, Hyundai Santro, Chevrolet Spark and soon to be launched Hyundai Eon. Recently, Nissan India has also launched a brand new sedan, Nissan Sunny in India. Nissan Sunny price ranges from Rs. 5,78,000 – Rs. 7,68,000(ex showroom New Delhi) depending on the model one chooses.
