The existing lineup of Jaguar F-type is all set for an expansion. A new AWD (all-wheel drive) variant, which has been spied on test quite a few times, will soon be making an entry into the current portfolio. This new all-wheel drive option comes as an obvious move from the British automaker, as it directly competes against the likes of Porsche 911 Carrera 4 and Audi R8.
The model has been designed to increase the its appeal in markets with colder climates, such as North America and Russia. The all-wheel drive system will reportedly be offered on models equipped with six and eight-cylinder engines. However, the availability of a six-speed manual transmission is still doubtful.
The recently spotted 'AWD' badged F-Type, was seen with a prominent bulge in the bonnet. This is something which is not seen on the current F-Type and in here, hinting at only one purpose and that is to accommodate the extra driveshafts and differentials for the front wheels.
This all-wheel drive F-Type will reportedly debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show later this year., and should help boost sales post its launch. After this AWD model, we can expect a SVR treated F-Type as well as entry-level four-cylinder models.
Speaking about all this, Andy Goss, Sales Director Jaguar Land Rover at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, said, “We’re just at the start of the story for this car. If you look at what our rivals offer [manual/automatic, rear-drive/all-wheel drive, coupe/convertible], we want to compete, but we will do what’s right for us, not just copy our competitors.”
