Jaguar Land Rover to increase the headcount to 20,000 in next two years

Tata Mototrs soon after the purchase of Jaguar land Rover (JLR) laid off workers to cut costs which led to anger and protest against the company. With the company drawing huge profit margins, it has decided to hire 2000 more employees in coming two years.

Rumours are doing the rounds that JLR is thinking on the lines of increasing the headcount by 11 percent globally across different positions. The company is all set to introduce 400 people in UK this year and is in process to recruit 280 graduates.

At present the global manpower strength of the company is around 18,000 which is likely to touch 20,000 mark by next year. The company had recently recruited 1,500 employees for the Land Rover's Halewood manufacturing facility in Merseyside to produce soon to be launched new Range Rover Evoque.

The company claims that it has received more than 6,500 applications for 280 positions to support a multi-billion pounds investment plan for new products.These graduates will be recruited for various roles from product development engineering, manufacturing, finance, human resources, marketing, IT and purchasing.

Tata Motors recently made an announcement regarding 1 billion euro investment (over 6,100 crore) in JLR. According to the report, Des Thurlby JLR Human Resource director said that the company is planning to spend big bucks on the product research in order to develop new products powered with high end technology. The investment will maintain JLR's position as an innovative manufacturer of luxury cars.

The report also reveals that along with Range Rover Evoque, the company will also launch its frist ever diesel hybrid sports utility vehicle by 2013. Jaguar introduced the electric concept car last year which runs 900 km in a single charge at an unmatchable speed of 320 km per hour. JLR earned a profit of Rs 1,958 (after tax) last year.
