Jaguar mulls a new saloon, launch expected in 2015

The luxury sedan manufacturer, Jaguar is apparently developing a new sedan to challenge the upcoming models like Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz CLC-Class. The British manufacturer is mulling to introduce the new front-drive baby saloon in the U.S. including the emerging Indian and the Chinese car markets by 2015. Moreover, the auto major is contemplating to develop the saloon at their manufacturing plants in India and China. The primary four-door sedan will be 4.5 meters long, apart from this the new saloon is anticipated to be introduced in varied body styles like coupe and roadster.

Lookswise, the new sedan might not adorn a ground-breaking appearance, however, it will carry forward the classy exteriors to maintain the premium image. The state-of-the art interiors are class-leading, incorporating the latest technology features from the large display screens to control the multi-media functions, navigation system besides the connectivity features onboard. The baby Jaguar is expected to share the LR-MS platform of the Jaguar Land Rover's new Range Rover Evoque, which had been recently launched in the 3-door coupe and SUV body styles. Jaguar’s chief technical specialist has informed that they are working aggressively to bring the maximum weight reduction in the car with the combination of steel and aluminium.

Fuel economy is another factor, the company is focusing on. Jaguar is putting maximum effort to develop the front-drive cars to meet the new emission Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFÉ) standards set by the US to restrict the engine emissions to just 100 kg/m of CO2, which are expected to come into effect from 2016. The Front-drive model improves the fuel economy of the coars considerably and in the process reduces the engine emissions. The company is considering three different engine options for the new car – a new 1.5 liter 3-cylinder engine, 1.8 liter 4-cylinder engine and a 2.0L turbocharged petrol as well as diesel engines with a combination of either an 8-speed automatic gearbox or a nine-speed automatic gearbox.
