Jaguar XF S 2.2 was earlier speculated to be launched in the last quarter of 2012, but our trusted sources now have confirmed that British luxury maker's Indian arm is planning to launch the saloon by December 2012 or January 2013. Jaguar XF is currently sold in India with three engine options- 3.0-litre V6 diesel, 5.0-litre petrol and 5.0-litre supercharged petrol, but the all new Jaguar XF S is likely to house a smaller 2.2-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission gearbox, which will help it become cheaper and better in terms of fuel efficiency.
The other factor, which might help it become even more cheaper is the fact that the car might be brought through CKD route in India, helping it fight better with its closest rivals including Audi A6, Mercedes-Benz E-Class and BMW 5-Series, which are locally assembled, thus are cheaper than the existing Jaguar XF as of now. However, the company's hasn't commented on the pricing, we are expecting it to be around Rs 40 lakh (ex-showroom). And like the company had previously said, the mileage of the upcoming Jaguar XF S 2.2 will be around 18.5kmpl, and if it happens, we are sure the car will have the competitive edge over most its rivals.
The 2.2-litre diesel motor is the same that currently does its duty to the Land Rover freelander and Evoque. Our source further says that the Indian version of the XF S 2.2 might not get features like Start-Stop like European version, which will again reduce the cost of ownership and help Jaguar do well in terms of sales.
Stay tuned to CarDekho for more updates on the same. Cheers!
