Jeep has announced the Grand Cherokee and the Grand Cherokee SRT at the ongoing 2016 Indian Auto Expo. Official launch of the brand will take place in mid-2016 and prices of all these offerings will be announced then.
The Grand Cherokee will be offered in two variants – Limited and Summit. Both will be powered with the same 3.0-litre V6 EcoDiesel engine, which is capable of churning out 240 bhp and 570 Nm of peak torque. The engine come mated to 8-Speed Paddle-Shift Automatic Transmission.
On the other hand, the Grand Cherokee SRT is a high-performance luxury SUV. The exteriors of Grand Cherokee SRT are derived from a contemporary SUV’s design and such is quite evident from its boxy appearance. Despite a boxy setup, the lines and the edges of this SUV are smooth. Not to forget, the hood scoops, lowered stance, front and rear diffusers - all adds up to its sinister look. Moreover, the aggressive and mean looking headlamp design lends it an authoritative appeal.
Powering this beast is the 6.4-litre HEMI V8 that is specifically tuned to haul this behemoth of an SUV. Mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, the power is distributed suitably across all the four wheel, via the Quadra-Trac Active on demand 4WD. Stopping duties are taken care off with the help of high-performance Brembo brakes, coupled with the active suspension system.
The parent company, FCA, has long been struggling to bring the brand in India, but now it's only a matter of few months. Soon these cars will witness the daylight of the Indian market, due to their impending launch.
