The Jeep Renegade has been spied testing in India again. The SUV was spotted near Pune and was completely under covers, revealing next to nothing. The only visible things were the front air-dam and the headlamps. Though it has been spied earlier as well, the American carmaker did not bring the vehicle to the Auto Expo 2016.
The Renegade is based on the same Fiat Chrysler Automobile Small-Wide Platform which is found in the Fiat 500X. Globally, the SUV is available with four petrol, two diesel and an EtorQ trim. The transmission duties are carried out by a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed dual clutch automatic and a 9-speed automatic gearbox, depending on the variant. Some of the updated features include an electric panoramic sunroof, 8-way powered front seats, a dual zone climate control, a 7-inch colour TFT instrument cluster, and an adaptive cruise control. If launched in India, which is quite likely to happen, Jeep might compromise on some of the features to keep the cost in check. The car will compete with the likes of the XUV500 and the upcoming Tucson in the domestic market.
It seems that Jeep has some big plans for India. The automaker did not miss any opportunity at the Indian Auto Expo 2016 and displayed the Wrangler, the Cherokee and the Cherokee SRT at the automobile extravaganza. While there has been no announcement from the carmaker regarding the launch of the Renegade in India, the spied vehicle just raises the curiosity of SUV lovers. If introduced in India, the SUV is likely to come as a Completely Knocked Down (CKD) unit and is expected to be priced below Rs. 20 lakh, ex-showroom.
