Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles will reportedly introduce an all new aluminum ‘Hurricane’ 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder petrol with the next-gen wrangler.

The next-generation Jeep Wrangler, which is expected to make an appearance in 2018 will reportedly have a new 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine. The engine is likely to improve the Wrangler’s fuel efficiency drastically and will chuck out close to 300 horses.

Reports claim that the motor has been under development and the parent company — FCA (Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles) has codenamed it — “Hurricane”. The engine is said to be produced at the FCA's Trenton Engine Complex in Detroit. It is the same facility which is currently producing the Wrangler’s 3.6-litre Pentastar V6. The V6 motor musters 285 horses while the new 2.0-litre, as mentioned above, will be more powerful than it and will have a better fuel efficiency as well.

Last year a few reports indicated that the next-gen Wrangler will have a hybrid powertrain to cope up with the stricter emission norms. Moreover, the hybrid powertrain will also provide immense low-end torque in the Wrangler. It is believed that the new platform will keep its weight under check,  due to the usage of aluminium. However, nothing has been confirmed by the FCA. But it does appear that (rather obvious) the company is exhaustively focusing on weight reduction and new performance oriented efficient powertrains.

Speaking of India, Jeep showcased the Wrangler Unlimited, the Grand Cherokee and the Grand Cherokee SRT at the 2016 Auto Expo. All the three vehicles will be launched in the country soon while a Made-in-India SUV will debut next year and will be manufactured in FCA-Tata’s Ranjangaon facility. The company will retail the Jeep brand from separate dealerships.
