Kia Carens Becomes The 15th Lakh Made-in-India Car To be Manufactured By The Korean Carmaker At Its Anantapur Plant

With this, Kia has now become the fastest and youngest carmaker to cross the 15 lakh made-in-India production milestone

Kia has crossed a production milestone of 15 lakh made-in-India cars with the Kia Carens MPV. This achievement was made at the Anantapur manufacturing facility which was established in Andhra Pradesh in 2017 and has an annual production capacity of 3 lakh cars. The carmaker commenced annual production in 2019 with the Seltos being the first to roll out from the plant. Along with this, Kia has revealed some interesting details about its manufacturing run at the Anantapur facility till now.

Some Facts About Kia’s Production Run At Anantapur Plant

The Korean marque has revealed the number of units and the percentage share of the cars it has manufactured at the Anantapur plant.

Notably, the two EVs by the carmaker – the Kia EV6 and Kia EV9 – are brought to India via the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route.

Amongst this, the 15th lakh car to roll out of the carmaker’s manufacturing facility is the Kia Carens. Do note that a heavily updated version of the Carens is set to go on sale on May 08, 2025. Let us take a brief look at everything the 2025 Carens could offer:

2025 Kia Carens: An Overview

While official teasers of the 2025 iteration of the MPV are yet to be out, some spy shots have revealed that the upcoming Carens models will feature a refreshed design with angular LED DRLs and LED headlights that look similar to the Kia EV6. The front and rear bumpers, alloy wheels and LED tail lights are also expected to be redesigned.

The seating layout is expected to be identical to the current-spec Carens with a choice between 6- or 7-seats. The dashboard design, however, is expected to be refreshed with new AC vents, steering wheel and an updated centre console. The seat upholstery is also likely to be changed with the 2025 Carens. 

In addition to the already-available amenities like ventilated front seats, powered driver’s seat and wireless phone charger, it could feature the Kia Syros’ dual 12.3-inch screens and a panoramic sunroof. Other than this, it could also get dual-zone auto AC and the 6-seater versions of the MPV are likely to be offered with ventilated 2nd row seats.

While the safety suite is yet to be known, it is expected to get six airbags (as standard), front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, an electronic parking brake and some advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) features.

The 2025 Carens, however, is expected to continue with the same engine options as the current-spec model, the details of which are as follows:

• A 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (115 PS/144 Nm) mated exclusively to a 6-speed manual transmission.

• A 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine (160 PS/253 Nm) paired with either a 6-speed iMT or a 7-speed DCT gearbox.

• A 1.5-litre diesel engine (116 PS/250 Nm) mated with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.

2025 Kia Carens: Expected Price And Rivals

The 2025 Kia Carens is expected to command a premium over the current-spec model, prices of which range between Rs 10.60 lakh and Rs 19.70 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India). It will continue to compete with the Maruti Ertiga, Toyota Rumion and Maruti XL6. The updated Kia Carens can also be considered as a more affordable alternative to the Toyota Innova Hycross, Toyota Innova Crysta and Maruti Invicto.
