Kia Motors is another auto brand coming to India and it is in its final step to enter the domestic car market. The South Korean auto company, a subsidiary of the Hyundai group, is in talks to purchase a land to set a manufacturing unit in India. The company is considering states such as Gujarat and Tamil Nadu for the plant.
Michael Choo, Kia's international public relations team confirmed from Korea, without disclosing other details that, the Korean auto company is still making up its mind to enter the domestic auto market. He added that, it will be too early to comment on the company's plan about India.
As per the industry sources, Kia the South Korean auto company is rushing to enter India as they wish to take advantage of the growing auto sector. The auto company from Korea wishes to establish soon before the competition gets stringent. The already established players such as Hyundai, Maruti, GM and Ford are working on expanding their portfolio and Volkswagen is spread across in the Indian auto sector.
The second largest auto manufacturer in Korea, Kia is growing leaps and bounds. The company sold 19,08,096 units in the first 11 months of this year which accounts to a hike of 28 per cent. The South Korean company manufacturers compact cars, the entry level sedan and also the mid size SUVs. The company's popular car models includes sedans such as Rio and Cerato and the hatchback Picanto and Proceed. Kia, is a noted car brand in the global auto markets such as Europe, US and China.
As per the sources, Kia is in advantage and credits it to the Hyundai's cemented position in the Indian auto market. It looks like Kia will be getting support from the second biggest auto maker as it holds stronger position in India. In the areas such as raw material and joint component acquisition, the South Korean company will be in advantage by purchasing the stuff in less cost, on the other hand it will also provide help in back-end operations and logistics and more. The branding however would solely have to be done by Kia Motors itself and Hyundai will not come in the picture.
