Kia is set to launch its sub-4m SUV, the Sonet, in mid-September. Now, ahead of its launch, the carmaker has officially opened pre-launch bookings for a token amount of Rs 25,000 for the SUV. The bookings can be made at either Kia dealerships or on its official website. The Sonet will be offered in two trims: Tech Line and GT Line with multiple variants under each trim.
The Sonet will be offered with the Hyundai Venue’s engine options: 1.0-litre turbo-petrol, 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel. Here are the specs:
1.0-litre turbo-petrol |
1.2-litre petrol |
1.5-litre diesel (MT/ AT) |
|
Power |
120PS |
83PS |
100PS/ 115PS |
Torque |

115Nm |
240Nm/ 250Nm |
Transmission |

Unlike the Venue, the Sonet’s turbo-petrol engine will not be offered with a manual gearbox. Instead, it will be offered with an iMT (clutchless manual) and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. And while the Sonet diesel-manual will produce 100PS and 240Nm like the Venue, the diesel automatic will be specced like the Seltos and Creta at 115PS and 250Nm. It is the only sub-4m SUV to offer a torque converter gearbox with the diesel engine. The Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV300 are the only sub-4m SUVs to get an automatic gearbox with the diesel engine currently, although in the form of a 6-speed AMT.
On the features front, the Sonet will be a well-equipped sub-4m SUV. Kia will offer it with UVO connected car tech, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, an air purifier, and a sunroof. The Sonet is expected to be priced from Rs 7 lakh to Rs 12.50 lakh (ex-showroom). It will take on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon, and the upcoming Toyota Urban Cruiser, Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite.
