Kia will be taking the wraps off the launch-ready version of the Sonet on August 7. Before that, we’ve got our hands on a few spy shots of the base-spec Sonet’s interior.
The images reveal that the base variant still has the integrated design of the instrument cluster extending to the central dashboard as spied in the GT Line Sonet. However, this base variant gets a 2-DIN music system in lieu of a touchscreen and a digital speedometer and MID in the driver’s instrument cluster. Other visible elements on this dashboard include manual AC, a three-spoke steering wheel, vertically stacked AC vents with chrome surround, a charging socket, steering-mounted controls, tilt-adjustable steering wheel, and manual IRVM (inside rearview mirror).
In the higher variants, the Sonet is expected to be offered with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, UVO connected car tech, sunroof, an air purifier, front parking sensors, and a segment-first 360-degree camera. Safety features could include up to six airbags, rear view monitor, and tyre pressure monitoring system.

Under the hood, the sub-4m SUV will be offered with three engine options: 1.2-litre petrol (83PS/114Nm), Seltos’ 1.5-litre diesel detuned to make 100PS/240Nm, and a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol (120PS/171Nm). While the 1.2-litre petrol motor will be offered only with a 5-speed manual gearbox, Kia will offer the turbo-petrol engine with three gearbox choices: 6-speed manual, 6-speed iMT (clutchless manual), and 7-speed DCT. The diesel engine, on the other hand, is expected to get a 6-speed manual and even a 6-speed automatic from the Seltos.
The Sonet will rival other sub-4m SUVs such as the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV300 and Tata Nexon. It will also fight it out with the upcoming Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger (HBC) and Toyota Urban Cruiser. Kia is expected to price the Sonet in the range of Rs 7 lakh to Rs 11.5 lakh (ex-showroom). Unofficial pre-launch bookings are also underway at dealerships in select cities for Rs 25,000. The sub-4m SUV has also been listed on Kia India’s official website.
