Kia Sonet Facelift Exterior Design Spied Undisguised As Images Surface Online

The model spotted was the China-spec Kia Sonet, which was was seen with fang-shaped LED DRLs and  connected taillight setup

The Kia Sonet is one of the most premium offerings in the sub-4m SUV space. The Kia Sonet has been on sale for over 3 years in the current avatar, and its facelift has been in the works for a brief while, during which it was spotted testing multiple times, and its undisguised images of the China-spec model have now surfaced on the internet, revealing the exterior for the first time.

What’s Noticeable?

Kia has made noteworthy changes to the front and rear design of the SUV. The new Sonet comes with redesigned headlight clusters and fang-shaped LED DRLs, and a tweaked front bumper. The grille size and design, thankfully, don’t seem to have been tinkered with. It is worth noting that the India-spec Kia Sonet facelift will vary in design from model seen here.

Changes to its sides look limited to the fresh set of alloy wheels, while at the back it was seen with the new Seltos-like connected LED taillights and a big bumper.

In the latest shots, we can see two different variants of the SUV (probably mid-spec and top-spec trims). This is evident through the distinct 16-inch alloy wheel designs and the contrast between body-coloured door handles on one and chrome finishes on the other. Another prominent difference is the provision of multi-reflector LED headlights on the top-spec trim, whereas the mid-spec variant gets halogen projector units.

Interior Details

While the latest spy images don’t give us any glimpse at the facelifted SUV’s interior, the previous sighting of the India-spec test mule had suggested some important updates. They were a new climate control panel, and a fresh black and tan seat upholstery, likely for the higher-spec variants.

Features Expected On Board

The spy shot confirms that the SUV will continue with a single-pane sunroof. Other expected features on offer include a semi-digital instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, cruise control, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, and auto climate control.

A few safety feature upgrades are likely to be in the form of a 360-degree camera and some advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), as hinted by the front windshield-mounted camera. Kia will also provide the new Sonet with up to six airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts, and front and rear parking sensors.

No Changes Under The Hood

We don’t expect Kia to make any changes to the powertrain options of the SUV. The current India-spec Sonet is offered with the following engine-gearbox choices:

There are rumours that Kia might bring back the regular manual transmission for the diesel powertrain, but no official statement has been made.

Expected Prices And Competition

The Kia Sonet facelift is expected to be launched by early next year, with prices likely to start at Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom). It will continue to go up against the Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite, Mahindra XUV300, and be an alternative to the Maruti Fronx crossover.
