The BMW X6 is a beautiful looking SUV. With its high stance at the front and sloping roofline at the rear, it kicked off the trend of SUV coupes. After being followed by the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe, Land Rover also seems to be heading in the same direction now. A brand new Land Rover SUV has been spotted testing in Europe with a similar coupe-like roofline. It is expected to be the Range Rover Sport Coupe which was confirmed back in April. The car will most likely hit the market around this time next year. Once launched, it will spice up the SUV Coupe segment.
All elements of the car’s design are indicative of Land Rover’s design language. Underneath the camo the SUV has swept back headlamps, rectangular front grille, clamshell bonnet and the wide airdam, quite similar to the Discovery Sport. What's new is the side profile which looks more stylish and sporty. The rear windscreen seems to be tucked inside the tailgate which could be a new design element. Together with the wraparound taillights and the flared wheel arches, this could be one of the best looking Land Rovers.
Underneath the bonnet, the car could be running a 2.0-litre petrol engine. Apart from that the car might also receive the petrol 3.0-litre supercharged V6, a diesel V6, and a supercharged 5.0-litre V8. What can be the icing on the cake is the car getting an SVR badge. This will give it 557PS power from the 5.0-litre V8.
Jaguar Land Rover already has the F-Pace SUV with a similar sloping roofline. This design tweak in the Land Rover will highly compromise the headroom, luggage space and the entire third row of seating. This is no surprise as SUV coupes are known for being impractical. What's surprising is that JLR went for such an impractical SUV. But, the car looks great and with the Range Rover Sport’s DNA, is destined to drive great too, so who are we to complain.
