Audi had launched the Q3 last year, and this year we will see the locally assembled version soon. Audi’s research states that a hatchback will not appeal to the Indian luxury car buyers, and they had stated the Q3 would be the smallest vehicle that the Ingolstadt-based manufacturer will introduce in India, atleast for the time being.
We spotted one of the test-mules of Audi Q3, which was locally assembled. Not only were the tail lamps different, as they had a new array of LEDs, but also front LEDs were missing. They had the conventional bulbs for daytime running lamps. This wasn’t the front-wheel drive version, as it had the Quattro badge on the front grille and the rear. This could be a lower trim, to compete with the luxury hatches.
Audi is the largest selling luxury carmaker in India at the moment, and the company has a strong sales team that isn’t just pushing sales, but also working on diversifying their current portfolio. We believe that the locally assembled Q3 will be Audi’s answer to the luxury hatchbacks that Mercedes-Benz has already introduced and BMW will bring in by the end of this year.
Recently, the company had introduced the limited edition of the A6 and soon the next product is either the locally assembled Q3 or the S6. Our sources confirm the S6, however logically it will help Audi if they introduce the Q3’s new variant, as Mercedes-Benz has just registered 400 bookings on the A-Class and this compact SUV can dent their on going strategy.
If you spot any vehicle on test, please email us the images to editorial@cardekho.com and win exciting goodies.
