Lotus, a fully owned subsidiary of the leading Malaysian auto-maker Proton, made history on Wednesday by introducing the youngest-ever Formula One test driver, Nabil Jeffri in the BMW Pacific championship. Jeffri is a sixteen year old Malaysian formula one driver and is also a member of the driver development programme- AirAsia ASEAN. He undertook the pit-stop practice and aero testing on behalf of the team Lotus at UK's Duxford’s Imperial War Museum runway.

Jeffri is currently at the fifth spot in the ongoing BMW Pacific championship. Sharing his experience with the media persons, Jeffri said that he had an incredible day, one of the best days of his life (on Wednesday). He also thanked the Lotus Racing, Tony Fernandes and Mike Gascoyne for giving him the chance to drive their car. According to him, the experience was quite scary as this was the first time he went out for a race.

While appreciating the young driver's performance in the race Mr Heikki Kovalainen (senior fellow driver) said that the race was a great experience for Nabil and it’s really good to see how well he did. He also added that Nabil is obviously very young, and he’ll remember this experience for the rest of his life.

Jeffri performed considerably well during the race and according to his seniors, he picked up the correct procedures very quickly, and was working well with the whole team. According to Mr Tony Fernandes, principle of the team Lotus, Jeffri repaid his faith in him and has performed incredibly well and that’s a source of real pride for him as he proves what Mr Fernandes has always believed - keep dreaming, work hard to achieve what other people tell you is impossible, and your dreams will come true.
