Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 was launched a year-ago, and since its introduction it has been the country's top selling car. After setting the Indian market on fire, the Alto 800 is now making its debut in Chile market. The Alto K10 and the Swift Dzire are the other two Made in India cars that are exported to Chile. A left hand drive version of the Alto 800 is being imported into the local Chile market, and is sold under the Suzuki badge.
A total three variants of the Alto 800 have been launched in Chile - the base GL, DLX and the DLX with AC. The car comes powered by the same 3-Cylinder 796cc petrol engine that develops 47bhp of power, mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The car is launched as a small city car to conquer the public in terms of its low price. Alto 800 doesn't have anti-lock brakes or airbags, but the two top-models come equipped with power steering and central locking, and a CD/MP3 player is available in all three versions. The company expects to sell around 4,000 units per year.
