Modified On Oct 21, 2016 03:23 PM By Raunak for Mahindra e2o Plus

Mahindra & Mahindra has launched the e2oPlus at Rs 5.46 lakh and it is available in four variants – P2 (commercial), P4, P6 and P8 – priced in the range of Rs 5.46-8.46 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, New Delhi). The e2oPlus' price includes the state subsidy and FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric vehicles) incentive. Though the e2oPlus has no direct competitors as such, its pricing has landed it among the premium hatches in the country. Interestingly, it will be first EV (electric vehicle) from the homegrown automaker to come under the new ‘Mahindra Electric’ moniker.

Prices (ex-showroom, New Delhi)

  • P4: Rs 5.46 lakh
  • P6: Rs 5.95 lakh
  • P8: Rs 8.46 lakh

The top-end version – P8 – of the hatchback is powered by a 41PS electric motor, which puts out 91Nm of torque. While the rest of the trims are powered by a 25PS electric motor, which produces 70Nm of torque. The all-electric car has a two-speed, direct drive transmission. Also, the P8 is powered by a larger battery pack – 210Ah lithium-ion – that has extended the car’s range to 140km on a single charge. In terms of recharging capabilities, the e2oPlus P8 can be juiced up in 9 hours on a single phase 3kW 16-amp charger, while the rest of the trims can be recharged fully in 6 hours.

Speaking about its performance, the P8 is quick off the line too compared to the e2o and rest of the variants of the e2oPlus, with a claimed 0-60kmph time of 9.5 seconds and a top speed is limited to 85kmph. The e2oPlus has grown drastically compared to the two-door e2o. It is now 310mm longer, 61mm wider and is 25mm taller. Besides all this, the wheelbase has grown by a whopping 300mm. The e2oPlus offers a boot space of 135-litres.

Mahesh Babu, the CEO of Mahindra Electric, said on the occasion: "Our consumer is an urban city dweller who commutes daily. He wants a comfortable drive and not hassled by regular gearshifting and low maintenance costs. The cities have become congested and driving speeds have reduced a lot. Parking spaces have reduced too. We are working on building smart cities in collaboration with govt. Hence, we thought of a car which is city smart, reduces driving hassles, is affordable for longer commutes and solves other daily transportation problems. Hence, the e2oPlus was born."

Coming to the design, the e2oPlus has remained identical to the e2o, with minor tweaks. The grille in the front now features 'whiskers' like all of Mahindra’s new SUVs. On the sides, the dip near the C-pillar in the e2o has been elongated on the e2oPlus to accommodate the extra doors. The rear door handles are placed on the C-pillars, like in the Mahindra KUV100. Also worth mentioning in the design, is the slightly tweaked projector headlamp, rear spoiler and redesigned vertically placed LED tail lamps. Inside, the car will continue to feature a similar dashboard with a digital instrument cluster, touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone integration and navigation system - all with subtle changes.
