XUV 7XO, XUV 5XO, XUV 3XO, and XUV 1XO are the names that Mahindra has trademarked, possibly for its upcoming EVs
-
Mahindra XUV 7XO and XUV 3XO can be the names for the electric XUV700 and facelifted XUV400, respectively.
-
The XUV 5XO and XUV 1XO are expected to be all-new electric SUVs in the compact and micro-SUV segments.
-
These new names could specifically be for Mahindra models that will be offered in both ICE and EV versions.
-
The BE (Born Electric) range of cars are expected to carry the same names that were given during the time of their showcase.
Mahindra, who has been spending quite a bit of time in the trademark office recently, has trademarked some more names, which can be used for its upcoming electric cars. XUV 7XO, XUV 5XO, XUV 3XO, and XUV 1XO are the freshly trademarked names and we believe that Mahindra might use them for their products that will have both electric and ICE (internal combustion engine) powertrains.
Understanding The Names
Like most major brands, Mahindra follows some key guidelines while coming up with names for its models. Most of the Indian manufacturer’s models end with the sound of “O”, like the XUV700, XUV300, and Scorpio. While some of the names end with the numbers “00”, Mahindra officially pronounces them as “double O”, and this might be the reason why Mahindra has trademarked the new nomenclature.
The Mahindra XUV 7XO can be used for the electric version of the Mahindra XUV700, which is currently known as the Mahindra XUV e8, as it was officially called when it was showcased in its pre-production form in 2022. However, Mahindra might just go in the other direction and use the new trademarked name.
Similarly, the XUV 3XO can be used for the facelifted Mahindra XUV400 which is expected to be launched sometime this year. But, since that model is already in the market, Mahindra can launch a sub 4-metre version of the XUV400 and use the new name.

New Cars Yet To Be Confirmed
The names mentioned above are for the electric models that are either already in the market (XUV400) or have been showcased by the carmaker (XUV e8). But the two other names – XUV 5XO and XUV 1XO – can be for Mahindra’s upcoming electric cars. The XUV 5XO is expected to be a Creta-sized electric SUV that will be a rival to the MG ZS EV and the upcoming Tata Curvv EV.
The XUV 1XO, given the “1” in the name, makes us believe that it will be a smaller SUV, possibly a micro-SUV, that will be a rival to the Punch EV, which currently is the only micro electric SUV in India. With these 4 models, Mahindra will have an electric SUV in all the mass market SUV segments.

Confirmed Mahindra EVs So Far
Also announced and showcased in 2022, Mahindra announced a whole new range of electric SUVs – the BE series. These are expected to carry the same names that were given to them at the time of their showcase. The BE 05, BE 07, and BE 09 will be standalone models and different from the other Mahindra EVs as they will be built on a new dedicated platform as part of the Born Electric range.
Trademark vs Market Launch
Trademarking new car names is not something new for Mahindra as the carmaker recently submitted trademark applications for the possible names of the upcoming 5-door Thar. It is also possible that we will not see anything come to market based on these latest Mahindra trademarks anytime soon.
Launch Timelines
The electric version of the Mahindra XUV700 is expected to be launched by the end of this year but first, we will see the launch of the facelifted XUV400. As for the BE series, the BE 05, expected to be launched by the end of 2025, will be the first of this lineup to enter the market. As of now, we are not sure what name Mahindra will use for the electric XUV700 and the Mahindra XUV400, but we will find out closer to their launch, so stay tuned to CarDekho for the latest updates.
