Mahindra launched the BS6-updated Scorpio in April 2020 and offers it in four variants: S5, S7, S9 and S11. Only the second-to-top S9 and top-spec S11 variants are equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and the carmaker has now updated it with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. As per Mahindra, the update will be available only to new Scorpio buyers.
The smartphone connectivity allows the driver to access their device via voice or the steering-mounted controls. Although the update does increase the convenience factor of the infotainment system, the Scorpio still lacks connected car tech (for functions such as cabin pre-cool and remote start/stop) that is offered in similarly priced SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. The top-end variants also get features like cruise control, auto AC, projector headlamps with LED DRLs, and front fog lamps. Safety features include dual front airbags, ABS, rear parking sensors and a rear parking camera.

Under the hood, the Scorpio is offered with a 2.2-litre diesel engine that develops 140PS and 320Nm. Mahindra offers the SUV with a 6-speed manual gearbox only. The old 2.5-litre diesel motor was discontinued with the BS6 update.
Mahindra has priced the Scorpio in the range of Rs 12.42 lakh to Rs 16.27 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). While the Scorpio uses a ladder-frame chassis and has no direct rivals as such, you can check out other similarly priced compact SUVs such as Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster, Nissan Kicks, and Kia Seltos that use a monocoque chassis. The next-gen Scorpio is expected to be launched sometime in 2021.
