In yet another spy shot special story, we have got our hands on some images of the Mahindra Thar 5-door still undergoing testing. The recently spotted model shows the long-wheelbase Thar still covered in heavy camouflage while revealing production-ready details.
Noticeable Design Updates
The spy shots show the 5-door Thar sporting multiple production-ready items such as alloy wheels and LED taillights. Speaking of the lighting setup at the rear, it seems to get sleeker LED elements inside, with even the brake light elements having been changed, compared to the 3-door model.
A recently spotted test mule showed multiple new design details of the Thar 5-door, including a beefier 6-slat grille, and circular projector headlights (possibly LED units). Other known updates include the provision of a fixed metal top.
Changes On The Inside
We expect the more practical Mahindra Thar to have a different cabin theme than its smaller iteration and a bigger touchscreen system. Apart from a sunroof, the 5-door SUV is also expected to come with dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, steering-mounted controls, and cruise control.
In terms of safety, the 5-door Thar could get up to six airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system, electronic stability control (ESC), and a reversing camera.

What Will It Get Under The Hood?
Mahindra will likely offer the 5-door Thar with the same 2-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines as its smaller-wheelbase version, although in a higher state of tune. We believe both the powertrain options of the Thar 5-door will come with 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions. As seen with the 3-door model, the longer-wheelbase SUV is also likely to get both rear-wheel and 4-wheel drivetrain (4WD) options.
Price And Competition
We expect Mahindra to price the 5-door Thar from Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom). It will serve as a rugged alternative to compact SUVs, as well as a bigger and more premium option to the Maruti Jimny and the upcoming Force Gurkha 5-door.
