It wasn’t long ago that we got our first look at the Mahindra Thar EV concept, which was showcased in South Africa as part of the carmaker’s big event on the occasion of India’s 77th Independence Day. Now, Mahindra has patented the 5-door Thar EV’s images way ahead of its expected launch by 2026.
Details Observed In The Patented Images
The trademarked images show the same 5-door Thar EV (or Thar.e as Mahindra calls it) as was shown during its South Africa event. It has the same square-shaped LED DRLs, and the three LED bars and ‘Thar.e’ lettering in the grille. The patented image also shows the same rugged alloy wheels filling the massive wheel arches and the chunky front bumper.
Mahindra has also patented the all-electric Thar’s dashboard, which features a huge squarish touchscreen system and a digital instrument cluster. Although missing in this image, the Thar EV is also expected to get a 2-spoke octagonal steering wheel as seen on the concept version.
The Thar EV’s front and rear bench seats sporting a squarish pattern have also been copyrighted. They are the same as noticed on the concept version of the electric off-roader. Only the front seat has a connected headrest while the rear passengers get a roof-mounted headrest as shown on the concept.

What’s Known About Its Powertrain?
Details about the Thar EV’s electric powertrain are scarce at the moment but we expect it to get a big battery pack, having a claimed range of more than 400km. A dual electric motor setup is expected, while 4-wheel drivetrain (4WD) with terrain-particular drive modes could come as standard.
