It has been more than three months since the launch of Mahindra XUV300 and we are yet to see a clutchless version of the SUV. But it has been spied twice already. While at first we saw images of what seems to be top-spec W8(O) variant, this time around, a video of the cabin with an AMT gear lever has surfaced online. Mahindra had announced during the launch of the SUV that the XUV300 will get an automatic later this year, probably by August 2019. Currently, the XUV300 is only offered with a 6-speed manual transmission as standard with its petrol and diesel engines. The AMT is expected to be offered with both the engine options of the sub-4m SUV.
The transmission unit in the image reveals regular AMT shift patterns as well as the opyion to manually switch between the gears. The shifter looks similar to the one offered on the TUV300 AMT. The 6-speed AMT on the XUV300 is likely to be sourced from Magneti Marelli. Now, let’s look at how the XUV300 fares against its direct rivals in terms of power and torque.

Among the Mahindra XUV300’s rivals, it’s the Tata Nexon and the Maruti Vitara Brezza that get an AMT option. The Hyundai Venue gets a 7-speed DCT (dual-clutch) whereas the Ford EcoSport comes with a 6-speed torque converter.
In addition to the XUV300’s automatic version, we also expect Mahindra to launch the two-pedal version of the Marazzo. The MPV is expected to get an automatic gearbox but only after the year 2020. For reference, here are the prices of the automatic variants of the XUV300’s rivals. Bear in mind that Mahindra is expected to charge a premium of around Rs 60,000 to Rs 70,000 for the AMT over the corresponding manual variant.
