Maruti Alto soon to be sold in Chile

Maruti Suzuki India is planning to sell Maruti Alto in Chile, South America in sometime from now. With the European auto markets not showing up in sales, the Indian auto major from a long time was looking to explore other auto market for its products. Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (MSIL),is also planning to export Maruti Alto K-Series versions in Algeria other than Chile.

Maruti Alto which will be sold in overseas market is expected to be loaded with 1.0 litre along with 3 cylinder K series engine which will produce a maximum power of 68 bhp @ 6200 rpm and maximum torque of 90 Nm @ 3500 rpm. The new model of Maruti Alto K-10 will have new features such as headlamps and taillights which are redesigned, newly tailored instrument cluster and new fog lamps as well.

In India, Maruti Alto is one of the bestseller in the domestic auto market and is also one among the five cheapest cars. Maruti Alto became the flagship model of the company after Maruti 800 was phased out by the company. The small car Maruti 800 is sometimes referred as the bigger version of Maruti Alto. The mileage of Maruti Alto is 17-18 kmpl in city areas and on highways it is 21 kmpl. Maruti Alto is loaded with features like AC, Fabric seats, remote fuel lid opener and in the top end model it is also equipped with power steering and cup holders etc. MSIL has priced Maruti Alto between Rs 2,77,696 to Rs 2,28,814 (ex-showroom, New Delhi).

Maruti Suzuki is planning to cllaborate with German auto marker Skoda to launch a new small car in the next two years. Volkswagen, the parent company of Skoda purchased 19.9 per cent stake in the company and with that the giant auto markers want to launch range of products. Maruti Suzuki is lacking in the technological expertise required in the engine and Volkswagen wants to team up as the company was looking for a long time to fill the white space of the small car. Currently the company has Volkswagen Polo as the hatchback model along with Volkswagen Jetta, Volkswagen Beetle, Volkswagen Passat, Volkswagen Phaeton, Volkswagen Touareg and Volkswagen Vento.

In India, Maruti Suzuki rules with a number of cars and holds a market share of 50 per cent making MSIL the czar in the small car segment. These cars are Maruti A Star, Maruti Alto, Maruti Eeco, Maruti Grand Vitara, Maruti Gypsy, Maruti Omni, Maruti Ritz, Maruti Swift Dzire, Maruti Swift, Maruti SX4, Maruti Wagon R and Maruti Zen Estilo.
