The labour unrest triggered at the Maruti Suzuki India’s Manesar plant since August 29th has reportedly affected the exports of the hatchback Maruti A-Star due to the drop in the production. Apparently, the production of all the Maruti models are hindered except for Maruti Swift for the past 10 days and the officials are expressing their concern that due to the prevalent conditions in the factory, the company exports are impacted. Based on the bookings made six months upfront, the factory will have to dispatch around 2-3 shipments a month. Maruti A-star is manufactured at the Manesar facility, which is exported to various markets including the European, South American , African and other parts of Asian markets as well.

Maruti Suzuki India is expected to export around 35,000 units in this financial year as a part of three year agreement with Nissan to supply a total of 1.05 lakhs units. The Maruti SX4 diesel variant is in high demand and has a waiting period of around 2-3 weeks, which is likely to go up further according to the MSI official. It is reported that there is enough stock for the models Maruti A-Star and the petrol variant of Maruti SX4, with MSI producing 150 units of Maruti SX4 and 300-400 units of Maruti A-Star at the Manesar facility. Maruti India is presently mulling to increase the new Swift production to reach 17,000 units a month to put the production back on track. Due to the workers’ strike in Manesar plant, the company had to replace the unrelenting employees with new set of workers to ramp up the production levels due to low levels of automation at the facility.
