Maruti’s premium hatchback, Baleno, had nailed the market within months after the launch. Now it emerges out that of the total Balenos sold in India till date, the top-end variant of the vehicle accounts for more than 50% of the total sales. On the contrary, carmaker’s another hatchback, Swift, which has ruled the Indian roads for quite long, was sold more in the mid variant.
Baleno comes with two engine options viz. 1.3 litre diesel and 1.2 litre petrol. While the petrol mill is capable of delivering a maximum power of 83 bhp with 115 Nm of torque, diesel powerhouse churns out 74 bhp and 190 Nm torque. The carmaker is working on a small turbocharged 1.0 litre petrol version which is expected to be launched very soon.
Credit for selling the top variants of Baleno goes to the automaker itself as it has priced the product quite competitively. Baleno’s base variant comes for Rs. 5.3 lac (ex-showroom Mumbai) while the top variant can be bought at a price of Rs. 8.5 lac (ex-showroom Mumbai). When we talk about its competitors, Hyundai i20’s top-end costs Rs. 8.9 lac (ex-showroom Mumbai) and Honda Jazz’s top model is priced at Rs. 9.2 lac (ex-showroom Mumbai). For a guy who is buying a car in this segment, Rs. 60,000 is a substantial amount and the Indo-Japanese carmaker has materialized well on this fact. Apart from this, Maruti’s reliability and low maintenance are always a plus point for its products and help them to overcome the competition.
