The Maruti Brezza gets a small but impactful feature reshuffle for the petrol-manual and CNG variants
-
The current-gen Brezza was launched with a single engine option: a 1.5-litre petrol with mild hybrid technology.
-
Now, the manual variants do not get mild-hybrid technology, resulting in a lower claimed fuel economy.
-
The Brezza now offers a claimed 17.38kmpl, compared to the automatic variants’ 19.80kmpl figure.
-
Maruti has also deleted electronic stability control and hill hold assist from the CNG variants.
-
Rear seat belt reminders are now standard for all the variants.
-
Prices remain unchanged, ranging from Rs 7.29 lakh to Rs 13.98 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Maruti Brezza has been given a silent update where it now loses some key features. The biggest change is that the SUV’s petrol-manual variants no longer feature mild-hybrid technology, resulting in a lower fuel economy figure.
Brezza Manual Is Now Less Efficient
The Brezza was launched with the 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with mild-hybrid technology as standard, which featured idle start-stop, regenerative braking, and torque assist during acceleration. Following the removal of this feature from the manual variants, their claimed economy drops to 17.38kmpl, or about 2.77kmpl from the previous figure of 20.15kmpl (LXI and VXI MT).
However, the automatic variants of the Maruti Brezza continue with the mild-hybrid technology and claim the same fuel economy of 19.80kmpl. As a result, those opting for the Brezza’s pricey 6-speed torque converter automatic option can boast a better mileage than those choosing the 5-speed manual. Irrespective of transmission, the powertrain produces 103PS and 137Nm.

CNG Variants Rejigged
The CNG variants of the Maruti Brezza were launched earlier this year with no changes in features compared to the corresponding petrol-manual variants. However, the CNG variants will now offer fewer safety features with the deletion of electronic stability program and hill hold assist.
The Brezza CNG variants continue to feature dual front airbags, rear view camera, rear wiper washer, and ISOFIX child seat mounts. The top-spec petrol variants additionally get up to six airbags, a 360-degree camera, heads-up display, and auto day/night IRVM.
New Standard Safety Feature Introduced
This update is not all about losing features as Maruti has also added seat belt reminders for the rear passengers as a standard fitment to the Brezza SUV. There are no weight sensors for the rear seats, so irrespective of passengers seated at the back, the seat belts will have to be strapped on. So, it may be an inconvenience to get into car, unbuckle belt and then put them again.
