The Celerio will undergo its first generational update, and here are five key changes in the second-gen model

Update (10/11/2021): Maruti has launched the second-gen Celerio with prices beginning from Rs 4.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Read more about it here.

The Maruti Celerio has been in production since 2014, and in these seven years, it has never undergone a full generation update. Test mules for the new-gen model have been spotted multiple times, and we even caught a glimpse of the hatchback without any camouflage. Based on what we know and what we’ve seen so far, here are five things you can expect from the upcoming second-gen Maruti Celerio.

1) Well rounded Looks

The first-gen Celerio had a rather squared-off appearance that was reminiscent of the traditional Maruti cars of the time. The second-gen Celerio, however, has been spotted with rounded off edges, giving the impression that the hatchback has finally lost its dated boxy shape.

2) Visible Growth

While we don’t have an exact idea of its measurements, spy shots suggest that the new-gen Celerio will be much larger in size. Bigger dimensions on the outside will almost definitely result in a comparatively spacious cabin. That is not to say that the older Celerio was lacking in that department.

3) Powertrains Should Be Shared With The Wagon R

The Celerio is currently offered with a 1-litre petrol engine(67PS/91Nm) that can be had with a manual and an AMT. It also gets a CNG option. The new-gen Celerio will likely get the same, as well as the more powerful 1.2-litre petrol engine (83PS/113Nm) from the Wagon R. The CNG option is expected to be limited to the smaller 1-litre engine only, just like the Wagon R.

4) Upgraded Feature List

Just like its engines, we expect the new-gen Celerio to share its features list with the Wagon R as well. Maruti could choose to bring in a few premium features like auto AC and a rear view camera from the Swift too.

5) Minimal Price Hike

Despite undergoing a full generation update, we expect the price hike to be relatively low. For the 1-litre engine variants, we expect a price hike of around Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000. However, in case of the 1.2-litre engine, we expect the difference to be around Rs 35,000 over the smaller-engined variants.
