Maruti Suzuki's R&D centre in Gurgaon is about to develop one of the cheapest dual fuel engines. The engine will run on CNG as well as petrol mitigating the cost of fuel bills to one fourth. Multi Point Fuel Injection (MPFI) technology in CNG will be used for developing this dual fuel engine which will increase the efficiency of engine.
Today's CNG kits attached with petrol engines supply fuel only in one direction but this dual fuel engine based on MPFI technology offers various benefits. It is said that CNG fuelled vehicles are not suitable because they are slow and do not perform well on high speeds. But with this incarnation of dual fuel engine, these problems will be eradicated.
As the gas will be injected through multi points and the injectors will be integrated into the engine, it will lead to better utilisation of the fuel and will cut the running cost to almost one forth. It will be economical for the car drivers as it offers better pick up and low consumption of fuel.
Today in the market almost all cars like Maruti Alto, Hyundai Santro, Hyundai Accent and Toyota Innova have CNG kits and these kits are externally attached to the engine. The new technology used in the Maruti Suzuki's engine will improve the efficiency and eliminate the power loss. This will lead to certification for Bharat Standard-IV emission norms that will be in force from 1st April 2010.
