Maruti eVX made its global debut in concept form at Auto Expo 2023 and was confirmed for the Indian market.

New reports reveal Maruti intends to localise as much of the manufacturing as possible.

Could result in an affordable price tag, but large proportions and battery still suggest a Rs 25 lakh price point.

The eVX concept was said to feature a 60 kWh battery pack, good for 550 km of range.
The Maruti eVX will be the first all-electric offering from the country’s most popular carmaker. It made its debut in concept form at Auto Expo 2023 and a more evolved version was recently showcased in Japan. Latest reports reveal that Maruti intends to localise the eVX as much as possible, which should help make it a lot more affordable too.
At a recent event, Rahul Bharti, Executive Director of Corporate Affairs at Maruti Suzuki, said “It is not enough to simply launch a model with imported batteries and motors. Our plan is that when we launch an EV, it should be locally made. So we will have a localised battery and motor in our EV and to build scale, we will also export the model from India.”
Expected Price?
The Maruti eVX concept was around the same size as the Maruti Grand Vitara compact SUV. That means it is bigger than the Tata Nexon EV which is a sub-4m offering. Given that the top-spec Nexon EV with the bigger 40.5 kWh battery claiming 465km of range is priced at Rs 19.94 lakh, the bigger Maruti eVX is bound to be pricier, costing around Rs 25 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom).
Battery and Range
Based on the details revealed for the upcoming electric SUV in concept form, the Maruti eVX will be powered by a 60 kWh battery pack for a claimed range of up to 550 km. We still do not have any details about the final specifications for the SUV, but Maruti did state there will be a dual-motor all-wheel-drive option as well.
Features and Design
The most recent version of the eVX concept looks closer to production than the version that debuted at Auto Expo 2023. It has a tall and upright front end while the rest of the design has a chunky aesthetic with thick cladding all around. The interior of the concept is quite minimalistic with a pair of large connected screens as the dominant feature of the dashboard. Other comforts expected to be on offer include powered and ventilated front seats, multi-zone climate control, and safety features like ADAS.
Launch Timelines
The production-ready Maruti eVX is slated to make its market debut in 2025. It will be arriving in time to take on other expected launches in the compact electric SUV space from Hyundai and Kia, while taking on the MG ZS EV as well.
