Maruti Baleno is all set to embark on a new path. As reported by CarDekho earlier, the Indian carmaker has now dispatched a batch of 1,800 units from Gujarat, and the car is expected to be launched by next month, in Japan. This is the first time it is happening - a model made by the Indian automaker is being exported to Japan.
The automobile has been a spectacular success in the domestic market and shattered its competitors in the segment. It dislodged the top-seller, Hyundai i20, in December 2015, to gain the no. 1 spot in terms of sale. The company has ambitious plans for the car and is all-set to export it to Europe as well. To compensate for the underpowered mills, it recently unveiled the Booster-jet variant of Baleno at the ongoing Auto Expo. The 1.0 litre engine is turbocharged and churns out 110 horses of power. The torque producing capacity is also enhanced in the to-be-launched model.
“I am convinced that the Baleno will be the success story of ‘Make in India’, and the significance of Maruti Suzuki as the global production base will further expand,” said T. Suzuki, president, Suzuki Motor Corporation, at the ongoing Expo.
Presently, the car comes with two engine options. The 1.3 litre diesel powerhouse generates 74 bhp of power with a peak torque of 190 Nm. On the other hand, 1.2 litre petrol is capable of delivering a power of 83 bhp and 115 Nm of torque.
