Anybody deferring their new car purchase for the onset of New Year, they better hurry up right now and avail the exuberant discounts offered by the auto companies. Country’s largest car manufacturer Maruti India’s Managing Executive officer Mayank Pareek himself has pointed out that the auto major is offering their car models at 22% additional discounts since November. The idea is basically to clear out the petrol car inventories which are constantly piling up. Even the budget cars like Maruti Alto with a price tag of under Rs 3 lakh and Maruti Wagon R are also offered with straight cash discounts of up to Rs 35,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively.

MSI has announced around Rs 35,000 cash discount to boost the lukewarm sales of Maruti A Star which hasn’t been doing quite well in terms of sales of late. General Motors too has announced massive discounts on its models. The Chevrolet Spark and Aveo UV-A hatchbacks are offered with an unbelievable cash discount of Rs 53,000, while the Spark attracts the additional Rs 11,000 worth free insurance coverage. The flagship Chevy Beat petrol is sold at a discount of up to Rs 33,000 including the insurance coverage worth Rs 12,000. The sedans Chevrolet Aveo and Optra are up for grabs at an astonishing discount of Rs 62,000 and Rs 54,000 respectively.

Car manufacturers like Mahindra and Mahindra has already announced their own share of discounts of up to Rs 65,000 on their most popular models, Mahindra Xylo, Mahindra Scorpio and Mahindra Verito until December 25th , this year. Hyundai India offers one of its best-selling hatchback Hyundai i10 also in tandem with MSI at a discount that translates to Rs 33,000 from the customers point of view. There is a Rs 12,000 worth insurance coverage clubbed into the discount offer. Global car manufacturers like Volkswagen and Fiat on the other hand, instead of offering an outright cash discount opted for benefits to lure the consumers. Fiat has offered as high as Rs 1,40,000 worth benefits including the practical discounts like insurance coverage , gift cheques, road side assistance and so on.

Similarly VW India has Rs 40,000 discounts covering the free insurance for a limited period on Volkswagen Vento sedan and Volkswagen Polo hatchback. Ford India has taken up a similar strategy to ramp up the sales of its very own car models. To cap it all, it’s basically the diesel cars that are being offered with the massive discounts. The consumers have literally turned the tables where the car sales are concerned opting the diesel cars by far over their petrol variants. Cars offered in both engine trims are the worst affected. The diesel cars attracted 80-85% more sales throwing the petrol car sales into gallows. What other proof do we need when cars like Maruti Swift diesel still has a wait period of up to nine months.
