The recent talks held between the Maruti India management and the workers did not yield any conclusive outcome. This is the second attempt made by the management to bring a solution to the 29 day labour unrest at the plant. Earlier last week, a meeting was scheduled between the MSI management and the representatives of the Maruti Udyog Kamgar Union (MUKU). The initiative was taken by the Haryana Government, however, the discussions had collapsed as the workers' refused to participate. During the earlier talks, the company management had refused to recognize the proposed Maruti Suzuki Employee Union (MSEU).

Hence, the workers have requested the MUKU to hold the discussion on behalf of the workers. Another round of discussions are expected to take place today between the management and the representatives of MUKU. The MUKU representative, Kuldeep Janghu has reported that the workers demand to resolve the issue at the earliest. In fact, the MUKU union has issued a notice to call a hunger strike from the 28th of this month as a protest against the management. However, they have maintained that the production will not be affected despite the strike.

With the 29 day impasse at the Manesar factory, the production of the top selling models of Maruti India including the Maruti Swift, Maruti SX4 and Maruti A-Star has been hit. In the meanwhile, the bookings for the new Maruti Swift have crossed 1 lakh. The company is making every effort to ramp up the production of the Maruti Swift to meet the demand and avoid extending the wait time of the car. The production of the Maruti Swift is reported to have reached 700 units from both -Manesar plant and the Gurgaon plant put together.
