Maruti making diesel engine for its cars

Maruti Suzuki India said on Monday that, the Indian car maker has started making the diesel engine for its mid sized sedans, and it seems that by 2011 second quarter it will be ready.
Shinzo Nakanishi, the Managing Director and CEO of Maruti India said that, at present the work on the diesel variant on the mid sized sedan is going on. The Maruti engineers are working on it and the company wishes to get the diesel engine ready by the middle of the 2011. He also said that, in the beginning Maruti India is planning to put the new diesel engine in the Maruti SX4.
Maruti Suzuki India, sports diesel engine in its three products Maruti Swift, Maruti Swift Dzire and Maruti Ritz which is taken from Fiat.
Nakanishi also said that, October was a record month as the sales of its cars was more than one lacs units which happened for the first time in India. This month is also expected to give the same returns.
The festive month October in this year, Maruti recorded a sale of 1,07,555 cars in the Indian auto segment against the 95,148 cars in 2010, September. Suzuki the Japanese auto giant owns 52.4 per cent of shares in Maruti.
Nakanishi said that, it seems difficult to have the same sale till March 2011, because of the expectational rise in demand in this year. Nakanishi also ushered on the second and third manufacturing plant at Manesar he said that, the second manufacturing unit is already in progress and by the end of 2011 it will be ready. The company is also looking forward to hasten the operations of its third manufacturing unit which is expected to be ready by 2013. Maruti India, declared that it will invest more than Rs 3,500 crore to enhance its production facility in the Manesar unit. The Gurgaon manufacturing unit can produce 8.5 lacs cars in a year however, the Manesar can manufacture 3.5 lacs cars every year which makes it equal to 12 lacs cars every year.
Nakanishi also said that, the company will shut the facility in its Gurgaon and Manesar plant for the maintenance work for 9 days in the last week of December.
