Maruti Manesar strike takes fierce shape, supervisors attacked

One might not have thought that the worker’s agitation at Maruti India Manesar plant will turn berserk. Today in morning, when a group of 11 supervisors were on their way to work, they were blatantly attacked with five of them having sustained injuries. The supervisors were stopped by a group of people near the factory of Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India’s Manesar plant and were allegedly attacked. Dhiraj Soni, a worker at the Manesar plant has been detained by the police in connection with the incident. Two of the injured employees are under medical supervision and other three who sustained injuries are discharged. They were admitted to Artemis Hospital soon after the attack and an FIR will be filed now.

The company conveyed its strong condemn through a statement which reads that this was another desperate action by the striking workers, using violence and fear. Attributing the dreadful incident completely to the ongoing agitation, Maruti Suzuki India said that by such violent acts the striking workers have polluted the environment in Manesar and that such actions were damaging for the industrial climate in the Manesar belt adding that they will destroy jobs and prosperity in the region.

Little earlier the news was aired that workers at 3 of Suzuki India’s units were on a flash strike. Workers at Suzuki Powertrain India, Suzuki Castings (in Manesar) and Suzuki Motorcycle India in Gurgaon stalled production activities in support of their colleagues at Maruti Suzuki India's Manesar plant. But the company is adamant about getting the good conduct bond signed by workers before entering the plant. The bond would not allow any worker to indulge intermittent stoppage of work, stay- in-strike, work-to-rule, going slow, sabotage or otherwise any activity, which would hamper normal production in the factory.
