Maruti mulls to launch a global car by 2017

Indian auto industry is abuzz with the news of Maruti Suzuki India mulling over the probability to roll out a global car. It is expected that this new car will be launched in the market by the year 2017.

I V Rao Managing Executive Officer (R&D) of Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) said in a report that the company’s aim is to launch a car in the Global Market. He also added that with the start of their new R&D center at Rohtak, the company will start looking towards this global car. The manufacturing of this new car by the company will be assisted by its elder Suzuki Motor Corp (SMC), it will help in making the car efficient for launch in the European and Japanese markets. He further said that the new car is expected to hit the global market in 2017.

The other global cars by the company are Maruti Swift and Maruti Ritz. The company has launched both these cars in the Indian car market and did a great business earlier. At present the company is working hard for the launch of yet another small car in the Indian car market next year.The car is likely to be powered with an 800cc engine and will be based on the same platform on which company’s existing cars are based on.

MSI is investing an amount of Rs. 1500 crore on the manufacturing of this new model in its R&D plant in Rohtak. This will be the SMC’s first significant centre outside Japan, to increase the production capacity and become self dependent. At present it is trying to enhance its new plant, so that it can manufacture a full model in here itself. The company at present has Maruti Swift, Maruti Ritz, Maruti Alto, Maruti Zen, Maruti Wagon R, Maruti A-Star, Maruti Eeco, Maruti Grand Vitara, Maruti Gypsy, Maruti Kizashi, Maruti Omni, Maruti Swift Dzire and Maruti SX4 under its portfolio in the Indian market.
