Maruti India has resumed the production of Maruti A-star and Maruti SX4 at Manesar plant very recently, while the Maruti Swift production had resumed the normal levels earlier only. Apparently, the second shift production has begun at the Manesar Plant B in Haryana. However, the labour unrest hasn’t been resolved in spite of various attempts made by the management and the worker to close the issue. The Maruti A-Star price in India is in the most affordable range for an automatic gearbox version at Rs 4.34 lakh.

The workers of the Manesar plant have placed their demands in front of the management which included the reinstatement of 62 dismissed and suspended workers and approving the proposed union named Maruti Suzuki Employee Union (MSEU). However, the management disagrees to take back all the 62 employees among which 33 are dismissed and 29 are suspended on the charges to sabotaging the operations at the plant. The company has relented to take back the 18 of the trainees dismissed along with a few of other dismissed employees, leaving the rest without pressing serious charges against them.

On rejection of workers’ demand for recognizing the MSEU, the Manesar plant workers have requested the Maruti Udyog Kamgar Union (MUKU) to represent on their behalf. Announcing their support to the Manesar plant workers, the Center of Indian Trade Union (CITU) had staged a rally saying that the Maruti Suzuki India’s decision to make the workers sign the good conduct bond before entering the company premises is a wrong move. The labour unrest at the plant began on August 29th due to the suspension of a few workers who have allegedly hindered the production at the plant causing a deliberate attempt to bring down the quality of cars. This had triggered the MSI management to make the workers sign a good conduct bond.
