Maruti sales up 3.3% in March

Maruti Suzuki India is the largest car maker in the Indian sub-continent at present, 54.2% of which is owned by the Japanese partner Suzuki Motor Corp. It seems like Maruti Suzuki India is set on breaking its own records in terms of sales. Last year in March the company registered the highest ever monthly sales and now exactly after one year the company sales have surpassed that figure reaching at a new high. It is the third time in a row in the fiscal year 2011-12 that Maruti Suzuki India has registered monthly sales of over one lakh units with the figure touching a new high of 125,952 units. March 2012 has registered an overall growth of 3.3% over the company’s sales exactly one year before which was 121,952 units. The figure also includes 13,228 export units reflecting a growth of 14.7% over the last year which stood at 11,528 units.
The domestic sales last year in March were 110,424 units and this year in March the domestic sales have also been the highest ever in the history of the company at 112,724 units reporting a growth of 2.1%. The company has a vast line-up in the passenger, utility and vans category. Starting with the passenger category the mini car segment which includes models like Maruti 800, Alto, A-Star and Wagon R has registered a 10.2% decline in sales over the last year which was 58,799 units in March 2011 and 52,826 units in March 2012. The compact car segment has registered a decent growth of 23.6% from 22,576 units in March 2011 to 27,913 units in March 2012; this segment includes cars like Maruti Swift, Estilo and Ritz. The super-compact segment in the passenger category that includes Maruti Swift Dzire has registered a whooping growth of 60.1% in March 2012 which stands at 16,451 units as compared to the 10,278 units in March 2011.
The sales of mid-size segment with Maruti SX4 have come down to 1,520 units in March 2012 from 3,632 units in March 2011 registering a steep fall of 58.1%. The executive segment that includes Kizashi too has registered a slump of 53.4% in the sales which was 103 units in March 2011 and is just 48 units in March 2012. The total growth of the passenger category stands at a positive 3.5% with 98,758 units last months as compared to the 95,388 units of March 2011. Moving on to the utility segment the models like Maruti Gypsy, Grand Vitara and upcoming Maruti Ertiga has registered a maximum growth of impressive 146.8% with sales increased to 1,530 units in March 2012 from 620 units of March 2011. Lastly, the sales of vans segment comprising Maruti Omni and Maruti Eeco has gone down by 13.7% from 14,416 units in March 2011 to 12,436 units in March 2012.
