The top-of-the-line variant features aesthetics and features of the Stingray, which might have been discontinued by the automaker due to poor sales.
Maruti Suzuki has introduced a new range-topping model in the Wagon R’s lineup – the VXI+ – at a price of Rs 4.69 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The Wagon R VXI+ is available in both manual and automatic transmission (Maruti’s AGS – automated manual transmission) options.
Mr R. S. Kalsi, executive director, marketing and sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said: “Wagon R has had a phenomenal journey since its launch. Maruti Suzuki has delivered over 19 lakh Wagon R. The Wagon R VXI+ has been introduced to meet customer demands, who have desired for more style, along with comfort, convenience and advanced safety features. The Wagon R VXI+ defines unique design interventions both on the interiors as well as exteriors. It would strengthen the Wagon R brand and help to enhance Maruti Suzuki’s market share.”
What’s New?
It seems like the slow-selling Stingray has effectively become the Wagon R VXi+ in Maruti’s portfolio. Let us see what all the new model offers.
Exterior
-
Borrows the front and rear profiles of the Stingray – dual barrel headlamps with projectors, grille and bumpers along with tweaked clear lens tail lamps
-
Rides on 14-inch gunmetal-coloured alloy wheels similar to the Stingray
-
Maruti has added a new Midnight Blue shade in the Wagon R’s line-up, which was previously exclusive to the Stingray
Interior
- Unlike the all-black interior of the Stingray, the Wagon R VXI+ continues with dual-tone layout, but borrows the piano black inserts from the Stingray instead of silver ones in the lower variants
In terms of safety, dual-front airbags and ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake-force distribution) have been made optional in the VXI+ trim (optional variants). Mechanically, it remains unaltered and is available with the same 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, petrol motor (68PS/90Nm) coupled to a five-speed manual or a five-speed automated manual transmission.
