Maruti is one top running player at the ongoing Auto Expo. A big reason behind this success was - Maruti’s latest Sub-Compact SUV, Vitara Brezza .Though, towards the latter half of the Expo, the spotlight shifted to Ignis concept. This Micro-SUV has all the goodness of a modern hatch coupled with trust and reliability of the Maruti brand. Let's see what this car has stored for the Indian market.
Exteriors
Visitors were awe struck and pleased by the macho appeal of the car. An upright stance blended with a tall body design, Ignis is definitely a good looking stud. Maruti has further added finer details like air scoops on the bonnet and on the C-pillars in order to make provide it with a sportier appeal. The ‘SUV’ in this Micro-SUV comes from the upright stance and the roof-rails. The car also has a newly designed headlamp cluster, which houses attractive ‘U’ shape DRLs. This cluster mostly has a love/hate relation with people, and we do seem to love it. The rear of the car features 2 spoilers. Where the one above the rear windscreen, adds to the sporty character and the one below the rear windscreen, adds to the muscle of the car.
Interiors
Interiors of the car look refreshed. It is a break from the typical Maruti layout as it features a flamboyant touch-screen unit at the top-center of the dashboard. The AC switch and other controls also come in an all new layout. The climate control display is in a capsule shape unit, which in one of a kind in India. The steering wheel is also new and features mounted controls for audio and calls. The center AC vents have a rectangular design which compliments the infotainment screen, and the corner vents get a round shape to match other circular aspects of the car. All-in-all, a lot of designing has gone into this car, and the overall product reflects just that.
Engine
In India, Ignis is expected to house a 1.3L MultiJet diesel engine which will be capable of producing around 74bhp and 190Nm of torque. For the gasoline fans, the car will feature a 1.2L VTVT block. Mated to their mills, will be a 5-speed manual as standard, while the petrol version gets an additional option for a CVT automatic gearbox.
With the launch of Brezza and Ignis nearing, Maruti better reinforce their dealership floors, for surely there will be a lot of traffic heading their way!
