Maruti Suzuki leads Youth on the path to safe driving

Maruti Suzuki, the country’s largest car manufacturer has launched a competition for country’s youngsters that encourages them to follow and practice safe driving on the roads. It is open for participation from all individuals between the age of 18 and 30 years with a valid driving license. Through this nationwide competition, which is in its third year running, Maruti Suzuki will identity and recognise the best young driving talent of India.

Known as the Young Driver 2011 contest, this competition for Youth this year will be held at 63 Maruti Driving Schools across 34 cities in the country.  The competition shall test the competitors’ knowledge of traffic rules and awareness of road safety along with their real-world driving skills. The endeavor is to inculcate Safe Driving Habits amongst the youth by making the contest exciting and challenging.

Contestants in the Maruti Suzuki Young Driver Contest 2011 will be evaluated for safe driving skills in three phases comprising theory and practical, both.  There will be an online test for the shorlisted contestant in regional round.  Top 100 successful contestents will be called for comprehensive driving skill evaluation at designated Maruti Driving Schools in different cities.  These contestants will be evaluated in theory, a driving test on simulator and real time driving on roads. These regional rounds will  be held in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Cochin, Coimbatore, Faridabad, Gurgaon, Hyderabad,  Kolkata, Mumbai (& Navi Mumbai), New Delhi, Pune, Rajkot, Trivandrum, Jaipur,  Baroda, Bhubneshwar, Calicut, Lucknow, Gauhati, Indore, Raipur, Patna, Ranchi, Chandigarh, Jallandhar, Jammu, Kanpur,  Karnal, Ludhiana, Belgaum, Goa and Nagpur. These will be held from May 2nd 2011.

After regional rounds, 30 finalists will be shortlisted for the Grand finale, to be held in IDTR, Delhi in the third week of May.  During this final stage, participants shall undergo an actual driving test under the keen eye of Maruti Suzuki’s driving instructors & judges from Autocar India. They shall be evaluated on parameters such as smoothness, vehicle control and presence of mind during emergency situations.  The national winner of the Young Driver Contest shall be gifted a brand new Maruti A-Star car.

The registrations for the Young Driver contest shall be open till April 25.  Participants can register themselves for the contest at all Maruti Suzuki dealerships, service centers and also via the dedicated website.
