Maruti Suzuki profit plunges by 64% in Q3

The only hope Maruti Suzuki India is left with is the last quarter of the FY 2011-2012. The car manufacturer had once again touched the nadir in car sales during the Oct-Dec quarter of 2011 with a 28% slide in overall Maruti car sales. All the same, the auto major is unwilling to give up the hope anticipating a growth of 0-2% in the last quarter of the fiscal now that the majority of the issues with the workers are sorted out and all its factories are up and functioning to the fullest extent.

Maruti Suzuki India was continuously bugged with numerous labour issues last year which had driven the company to bear the losses of over Rs 500 crore not to mention the customer dissatisfaction with the longer waiting periods of the Maruti Swift diesel and Maruti Swift Dzire sedan.

The Maruti Suzuki India profits too buckled down by over a half suffering by 63.6% in the quarter recording just 2.06 billion as compared to the 5.65 billion in the corresponding time in 2010. Unwilling to burn the bridges with the customers, the auto major however is trying very hard to get the issue back into hands starting with making the deliveries on time.

MSI has delved deep and fished out the idea through sourcing the 1 lakh diesel engines annually from the well-known supplier Fiat India. MSI uses these diesel engines in all its diesel line-up starting with Maruti Swift, Maruti Ritz, Maruti Swift Dzire and Maruti SX4 sedan. Maruti India has ramped up the production from its sole supplier of diesel powertrains, the Suzuki Powertrain LTD for an additional 5000 units to help out the company to survive the unfavourable conditions.

Maruti India's labour issues coupled with common negative conditions like the depriciating rupee value, climbing interest rates on loans and the petrol hikes have made a huge impact on Maruti car sales in India. However, the Indian car manufacturer is yet to see the best of the days with the upcoming string of launches to precede with the Maruti Swift Dzire CS followed by Maruti Ertiga MPV and the upcoming Maruti XA Alpha concept SUV it showcased at the Auto Expo 2012.
