Maruti India’s November sales report shows huge dip in last month sales. The labour strike at the Maruti plant, overall car industry slowdown are the factors responsible for a major slump in the sales. However, there is another factor that has pulled down the car sales for the auto major. The unusually longer waiting period for Maruti cars has been a major concern for the auto major. The auto major has undergone a particularly harrowing period during the past five months since the labour strike hit for the first time this June.

The cumulative sales including the exports for the auto major in the FY2011-2012 have fallen by 18.5%.The situation is worse in case of the diesel driven cars. Because of this, country’s leading car manufacturer has ended up with 19% lesser deliveries on time in the month of November at just 82,870 units. Moreover, the auto major is falling behind the schedule for the diesel car deliveries. The consumers are facing an unusually longer waiting period before the diesel driven cars are delivered, extending upto 8 months in some of the cases. The majority of the blame lies with the labour unrest at the Maruti India’s Manesar plant. The overall unrest has led to $500 crores loss on the company’s part.

Mayank Pareek, Managing Exectutive Officer of Maruti Suzuki India speaking on behalf of the company had said that they are trying to find the solution to keep up with the demand for the diesel cars. The market dynamics are constantly changing and consumers are on an outlook for new cars. Maruti India is trying to adjust the diesel cars supply based on the consumers demands. Despite the unfavourable conditions, Maruti Suzuki might hike car prices early next year. The higher input costs and the depreciating rupee are the reasons to increase the Maruti car prices. This decision from the auto major comes right after the price hike implemented on the diesel cars back in October.
